Postcards from Mallorca, with Ash Grats
At ELCE, we believe inspiration isn’t found only in studios or offices, but in the spaces in between – the places where we allow ourselves to pause, reset, and see differently. ELCE Escapes is our way of capturing those moments: journeys that spark creativity, remind us of our roots, and shape the collections we create.
We follow Ash Grats and her partner James on a sun-soaked getaway to Mallorca, Spain. Known for its stunning coastlines, charming towns and unforgettable food, Mallorca was the perfect backdrop for a pre-wedding escape.
From cliffside ocean views to hidden gems tucked away in mountain villages, Ash shares her favourite moments, style picks from ELCE and the soundtrack that set the tone for an idyllic week away.
What drew you to this destination?
I’d been to Mallorca before and loved it, so I knew my partner James would feel the same. It has the perfect balance of beaches, culture and incredible food – all of our favourite things! When we were invited to a wedding in Italy with no other travel plans, it felt like the perfect chance to spend a little time in Mallorca beforehand.
Describe your favourite view throughout the trip.
Mallorca is known for its incredible beaches, many of them quite different to what we’re used to at home – less sand, more cliffs. My favourite view was definitely looking out onto the ocean from wherever we perched for the day - and usually jumping into the ocean from that same spot.
What’s one moment from this trip you’ll never forget?
We arrived at Cala Llombards nice and early to avoid the crowds and perched up by the boat houses that you’ve probably seen all over Pinterest. This spot is known to be super packed but somehow, we managed to get it almost entirely to ourselves for the whole time we were there. It was so special, our own little private oasis away from the packed beach, with some perfect rocks to jump off and crystal clear water.
Your perfect day here looks like...
I would start by heading up to the North West of the island to Deia. The early morning light over the mountains is so beautiful, I’ve never seen anything like it. Cala Deia is located down a winding road and if you get there early enough you’ll have your pick of car spaces (a luxury in Mallorca) and spots on the rocks.
After a couple hours of swimming, snorkelling & sun, I would head to Valdemossa for lunch. It’s a beautiful little town in the mountains with incredible views over the valley. After lunch, we’d head to the cute local shops for a gelato and when you’re ready, head home for a refresh before heading into Santanyi for dinner.
After exploring the streets of Santanyi, I’d dine at La Nouvelle Famille – a restaurant only serving local wines & delicious produce. Finishing with their ice cream sandwich with chilli crunch caramel, because ice cream twice in one day is absolutely allowed on holiday.
Which ELCE pieces travelled with you and where did you wear them?
With most of our time spent nearby the ocean, I found myself reaching for an Elce piece almost every day – whether it was to the beach, the markets, exploring towns, or at restaurants. I threw either the Nora Shirt or Yoli Shirt over a bikini most days, and loved pairing my Leya Top with the Yoli Pants to dress things up a bit for lunch. The Manon Polo and Shorts were also perfect for a relaxed, post-beach look.
One hidden gem you’d recommend to a friend visiting here.
La Nouvelle Famille (mentioned previously) was our favourite meal of the entire trip! A friend recommended it to us and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Incredible service, food & vibe.
The soundtrack to your trip
You can’t go wrong with Khruangbin when you’re driving through the mountains or lazing by the beach, but I also gave one of my favourite playlists a good run throughout this trip. It’s an ode to the early 90’s movie soundtracks – think New Radicals, The Cure and Third Eye Blind.
Until next time,
Ash x
